How Low Self Esteem Effects Your Health | Thirty Magazine

The devastating power low self esteem can wield
Too many people tend to overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are, leading to poor self esteem and eventually depression. Once the cycle of depression sets in, it becomes very hard to be satisfied with anything in life, letting any accomplishment previously made, slip though your fingers and disappear. As far as your state of health and wellness are concerned, a low self esteem can have an overwhelming and destructive effect. It can affect your fitness efforts as well as any diet and nutritional efforts you have made. When your self esteem has been compromised, you start focusing on what you are not instead of what you can become. Low self esteem and depression truly wields such a negative and destructive power, that it can change your life forever if you let it.

The first secret of success.
According to Norman Vincent Peale, the first secret of success is believing in your own self. If you want to be successful in anything you chose, believe in yourself. Success holds no remorse for the depressed and unwilling. Believing in yourself is the first step in being willing to make efforts, and without efforts success is unobtainable. Some simple health conscious choices can really boost a low self esteem and enhance the self belief process. By incorporating proper nutrition and healthy diet choices as well as a fitness or exercise program, you begin to realize that these efforts will lead to change. You will begin to believe in your abilities and start to value who you really are. You then in turn stop worrying about who and what you are not. These simple changes can help bring about great differences that will be reflected in the success you will start to achieve.

The power within.
While a low self esteem can be detrimental and negatively affect your health, the power to succeed that is hidden within, can help you to achieve any health, wellness or fitness goal you chose. You are very powerful, given the fact that you know you are. Within each and every person lies a drive to succeed, a power to push forward and feel satisfied. You must allow this power to permeate throughout your life. Only then can you overcome the feelings of depression and low self esteem. Realize that power, take hold of it and let it guide you to success.

The health risk of doing nothing.
When feelings of depression or low self esteem set in, and these feelings can come and go at any time, the health risk of doing nothing can be damaging. When these feelings are present, typically you have no desire to engage in fitness or exercise of any sort. Excuses set in why you shouldn?t follow your diet, and good nutrition choices usually fly right out the door. Eventually your overall wellness is at risk and the ability to break free of low self esteem and depression becomes even harder. Don?t find yourself doing nothing, do something, no matter how small it may seem.

Patience is truly a virtue.
Be patient with yourself. When you are fighting a low self esteem, negative feelings seem overwhelming. With the desire to change, will naturally come obstacles. Face those obstacles head on and be patient with efforts. If you are not perfect with your diet or you miss a day of your fitness routine, it?s okay. Try not to focus on what you didn?t do but what have done and are trying to do. Allowing patience to ensue will eventually help you achieve good health and an improved state of wellness, which will then start to dissipate all the negative feelings.
