IT experts say outsourcing should be seen as a way to join the global workforce as well as an opportunity to create new onshore jobs.
According to an article on TechRepublic.com, research shows that new jobs are still created domestically, even as some job roles are sent to other shores. One expert at a recent debate said most offshored software development is about ?following the sun,? where each team passes the project on to a new team as it is developed.
The IT industry, especially, needs to accept offshoring because some skills for some roles will not be available in their home countries, but are abundant in other countries. In India, for instance, a half-million IT grads are going into the workforce each year.
Outsourcing can be a positive thing if done for the right reasons. It?s about setting up the business to be more effective and efficient. Business can?t continue to operate the same way it did 20 years ago.
Companies need to look at outsourcing as a way of doing business so they can become part of this global workforce. There are benefits of outsourcing and there are challenges, and you have to address those challenges the best you can. Do you really need to keep payroll in house? Payroll is a process, and outsourcing it makes financial sense. By outsourcing that, you free up resources to address another need, for which you may need to hire more people locally.
